Jill Hurst- Donor
In September of 2017, our daughter and only child, Jill Hurst came home from getting her driver’s license and while standing on the front porch, she held her keys up and smiled and said, “Look Mom, I signed up to be an organ donor today.” I snapped the picture with pride in her decision to donate her organs should she ever be put in that situation.
Little did we know that 2 years later on September 6th, 2019, Jill would be in a car accident and over the course of 5 days, she would lose brain function. This put her in a rare position to be a candidate for organ donation.
Under the circumstances, there was nothing that we could do to change Jill’s outcome, but we could change the outcome of 5 individuals awaiting major organs. Jill donated her kidneys, liver, lungs and her beautiful, giving heart all while losing her own life. She also donated her corneas along with bone and skin tissue. As a major organ donor along with all that she donated in bone & skin tissue & corneas, she will eventually help almost 200 people with a variety of needs.
I hope that Jill’s story will compel you to sign up to donate your organs today. This was her final wish that we granted. Jill’s organ donation has brought us peace & comfort because she still continues to live here on earth through her organ recipients.
