Eddie Grimes- Heart Recipient
In 1981 I was told by my doctor that I had an enlarged heart and cardiopulmonary.
I continued to work for the next twelve years with this condition, but experienced several side effects as a result of this diagnosis. In early 1993 I started to noticeably become weaker every day. I was in the hospital a few times then I was sent to
St. Joe in Lexington followed by U K Hospital where I was under the care of
Dr. Mike Sekela . I received the generous gift of a new Heart on March the third 1993. It is truly a gift of
life. I will soon be celebrating 22 years of life that I would note have had. I thank the donor
family for their decision of organ donation. Because of them, I have been able to see my children get their
college degrees and see my grandchildren become teenagers.
I thank my wife and my family for taking good care of me, as well as
my church family for all their prayers and support. A special thanks to Dr.Sekela
and his team and UK hospital.
I know that the Lord was with me. I turned it all over to Him and He answered
my Prayers. I have been able to work at my home and grow our garden. Life after transplant has been so enjoyable. I am thankful everyday that someone made the selfless decision to be an organ donor. I hope that everyone will consider being on the organ donor registry, you truly are helping save lives!
