Charlie

Kidney Recipient

Before the transplant, my living quality was poor. I was always tired and in a bad mood. I never wanted to go anywhere, and I always felt horrible. I have had two transplants. My wife gave me a kidney in my first transplant, but the kidney began to fail once again, as the kidneys I was born with did. I was back to feeling bad constantly and being in that foul mood.

I was put on dialysis to help me through the kidney failure. My second kidney transplant came from a diseased donor. It was late at night, my wife and I were on the couch, and my step-daughter was in from college when I got the phone call they had a kidney for me. All the doctor’s appointments and the first failure had felt worth it.

The Patient Assistant fund helped me through both of my transplants. They have helped me save so much money to and from doctor’s appointments. Even the local doctor’s I visit are thirty minutes to an hour away, and the doctor’s I visit in Louisville are almost three hours away. The Patient Assistant fund has helped my family and I in a huge financial way with our transportation, and it would likely not be possible for me to have traveled to and from such appointments without their help.
