Amelia’s Run to Support Donate Life Kentucky Trust Efforts to End Transplant Waiting List

Race to take place on Saturday, October 26 in Grand Rivers

Amelia’s Run will take place at the Grand Rivers Tourism office on Saturday, October 26, at 8 a.m., in Grand Rivers, KY. Hosted by volunteers in the Grand Rivers area, the race memorializes Amelia Brown Wilson and raises critical funds for Donate Life Kentucky Trust. All proceeds will fund outreach programs such as early detection Kidney Screening Machines and boosting donor registration efforts statewide. With over 100,000 Americans on the National Waiting List for a lifesaving organ transplant, the need for education and donor registrations is vital.

Wilson received a lifesaving liver transplant in 2005. Wilson was heavily involved with the Donate Life mission, including starting its annual Gift of Life Challenge between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. In 2021, Wilson passed away, but her legacy lives on through her husband Allen Wilson, her family, and this annual event. The community has come together to celebrate her life while also supporting organ donation efforts that save lives every day.

The event includes a 10K run/walk, a 5K run/walk, a one-mile Kid’s Run, and virtual options for those who cannot attend in person. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, and awards will be given to the top finishers.
